Camp: Day 8&9
The end of day 7 was amazing for Kokrine Hills. That evening, 5 boys made professions of faith. The night previous, 6 girls made professions of faith. The souls reported to their counselors and each counselor and had them explain the gospel to them.
While some who made professions didn't prove to be genuine, we were still able to bring up the discussion of Baptism with those who desired to follow Jesus. There was a strong interest. So after our session yesterday we held a baptism class and it was well attended.
After some drama about young people making professions and some of us leaders overthinking our priorities we held an additional class with specifics of the Baptism. We offered Baptism for those who attended both classes. Having two of these two classes gave us a better view into the hearts of some of the campers and impressed about their enthusiasm about obey the Lord's command to be baptized.
Even in the rejoicing of new souls being saved, there are still many kids who still are in desperate need of the gospel. There are many campers continuing to fight against the truth of the gospel's hope in their lives. Girls in Kaitlyn, Skylar (a counselor from Foothill), and Victoria's cabin have continually battled with understanding the gospel yet openly admitting their reluctance to believe based on their love for sin. Pray for the kids who understand the gospel, that it would compel their hearts to come to saving faith.
Katy and Jaimie had a lot of great opportunities to share Christ with their girls this week. Many of the girls in their cabin repented and were saved from their sins! Praise God for the gift of salvation and the work He accomplished. We had the joy of watching 5 of those girls publicly announce their faith and be baptized. What a privilege it is for us to see these new believers be obedient to the word of God! The girls are excited to study the Bible and have already started a bible study in Genesis. Pray for these girls to continue fighting their sin and loving Jesus above all else.
Mason has done a wonderful job this week with a younger cabin. His co-counselor, Quintin, is a student from teen camp who got saved only a few weeks ago. We're thankful that Quintin is already acting out his faith and that Mason has been able to be an example for him. While at times the cabin has been all over the place mentally and spiritually, Mason has stayed course well. Even though the campers did not make professions of faith he understood that our priority is to be faithful to Christ and not bear the burden of salvation, that's God's job.
Nathaniel and Miles have also done phenomenal jobs. They have shed tears of joy and shared hard truths with their older campers. Several of their campers technically should not have been here since they were high schoolers but God has done amazing things in those boys hearts. One of them in particular came in very hard hearted and is leaving knowing the gospel and now asking good questions. He has been coming to camp with a very heard heart for the past several years, and there is amazing evidence of Christ beginning to work in his life just through simple curiosity. Please pray for Anthony.
Ruth and Eva were counselors to a group of 10 girls from 5 different villages. At first, pretty much all of the girls hearts were extremely disinterested in the Gospel, but by the end of the week, 4 girls had professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and 3 of those girls were baptized. What a great God we serve who is mighty to save! Please pray that these new believers would grow in their love and knowledge of Jesus Christ and pursue Him even through the midst of difficult home lives.
Today the campers greatly enjoyed the end of the week cabin skits. This weeks skit theme was, "a western rendition of a Bible story", which allowed some wonderfully comical native/western accent crossovers. The staff versus camper basketball game today and of course the big people won. We capped it off with the traditional surprise water balloon fight. The campers also enjoyed the cabin awards at PM session. Ruthie and Eva's cabin finished in first place, with Kaitlyn, Skylar, and Victoria's cabin trailing in second.
We have become increasingly thankful for our time here. Today is our last day with our campers and we are indebted to Roger, the leaders, and especially our Lord for bringing so much joy into our lives.
We have grown in our love and desire for the word of God this week, we've seen first hand how God can radically change a life by the reading and hearing of our Lord in this Holy Book.
We've literally have seen children change from hard hearted and silent souls to singing with us and asking good questions. As I type all of our kids are singing, "I'm so glad you died and rose again for helpless sinners like me." What a mighty mighty Savior He truly is.
We can't wait to come home and rejoice with you all.
